In order to help members who wish to propose or second applications for membership of the Club, the approved procedure is set out below.  This procedure applies to all applications for playing membership (except for Juniors).

Qualifications for sponsors

A sponsor (proposer/seconder) for a playing member must be a FULL member of the Club and have been so for not less than three years and have an official club golf handicap.  Both must heave been acquainted with the candidate for one year or more.  Members of the Committees, or of a candidate's family, are not eligible to act as sponsors.  No member may sponsor more than TWO applicants in any one calendar year.

Procedure

Applicants with qualifying sponsors may write to the Secretary, informing him/her of the names of his sponsors and requesting an application form.  The applicant should complete this form, obtain his/her sponsors' signatures, and return it to the Secretary, together with an official handicap certificate, if held, and a letter of introduction from any other Club(s).

Each sponsor is required to send to the Secretary a letter of recommendation and, if the applicant is for a playing category, confirmation that they have played a round of golf with the candidate.  The applicant's details are published on the Club notice board prior to interview.  There being no objections from the membership, arrangements will be made for a Committee member to play a round of golf with the candidate after their interview by the Captain and Vice Captain or Ladies Captain and Vice Captain (or substitute Committee member/s) as appropriate.

A male applicant not in possession of an official handicap may be required (before or after their interview) to submit three cards for handicap assessment.  If a handicap of 28 or better cannot be allocated the candidate will not be eligible for playing membership and the candidate and his/her sponsors will be notified.

Membership Categories

Applicants will be considered for Full membership if their current handicap is 20 or lower for men, or 28 or lower for ladies

Gentlemen with handicap of 21 to 28 will be considered for Five Day or Affiliate membership.

Ladies with handicaps of 29 to 36 are required to submit two cards to 110, played at Hindhead, in order to be considered for Five Day membership.  Ladies without handicaps must submit four cards, played at Hindhead, two of which must be 100.  One of these rounds must be played with a Ladies' Committee member.

Applicants who are MEMBERS' SPOUSES, irrespective of category, do not require sponsors and will be offered appropriate membership provided they have an official handicap, and at a time dependant on their position on the waiting list.
